How to Get the Achievement Ghost in Return of the Boogeyman

Ghost is an achievement in the game Return of the Boogeyman. Due to it being a visual novel, all you have to do to get this achievement is progress the game.

Ghost Achievement

You thought the bath was safe.

That’s on you. This is Return of the Boogeyman. Nothing in this game is safe — not the closet, not the hallway, not the dark, and definitely not a woman alone in a bathtub with her eyes closed and her guard down.

Hot Bath gave you the moment of peace. The steam. The silence. Natalie sinking into the water, letting the warmth do what sixteen years of therapy couldn’t — loosen her shoulders, quiet her mind, make her believe for ten goddamn minutes that the monsters of her childhood were someone else’s problem now.

She’s soaking. She’s thinking about leaving. Thinking about freedom. The house is almost sold. The keys are almost gone. She’s almost done.

And then the game reminds you what genre you’re playing.

The achievement description reads: “The blast from the past.” Which is the most polite way possible of saying: he’s been here the whole time and he’s about to make that your problem.

Steps to Earning the Ghost Achievement

Step 1: You need to have already triggered the Hot Bath scene — Natalie in the tub, the water steaming, the house empty around her. If you’re following the opening sequence, this happens naturally.

Step 2: Don’t rush. Don’t click through. Let the bath scene play. Let her soak. Let her think. The game needs you in that tub, relaxed, vulnerable, bare-skinned and believing you’re alone — because that’s exactly how he needs you.

Step 3: Have the monster drag you out of the safe haven of the heat of your bath so it can drag you into its own heated rage.

[The achievement drops here.]

She comes up dripping — water streaming off her body, off those round breasts, off the bare plane of her pussy, off her trembling thighs. Her platinum hair is soaked, hanging in ropes. She’s naked, wet, shivering, and held upright by one massive hand around her upper arm, her feet slipping on the wet tile, her body pressed against the bark-rough heat of his chest.

And those red eyes are inches from her face.

Ghost is the achievement where the game stops pretending this is a story about a woman saying goodbye to her childhood home. This is a story about a woman who never escaped — who just moved the furniture around and called it healing. The boogeyman was never in the house. The boogeyman was in her. And you can’t sell what’s already inside you.
